SLOW image deployment

Postby ahughes76 » Wed Jun 23, 2010 11:32 am

Hi,
I haven't used Net-ruuna for a while as a colleague has taken over imaging PCs & laptops from me. I've come to deploy an XP image to a PC and it’s taking far too long. It's been at the populating disk cache process for in excess of 2 hours. There is activity in the rembo console but I’ve never seen it take this long before (when I was using Net-runna regularly I could deploy an XP image in around 15 minutes). I’ve checked and fixed the shared repository, is there anything else I can change/check to help with this?

Thanks in advance.

Andrew,

Have you actually displayed the debug console in preboot and checked for errors?

You are correct in saying that you should be able to deploy XP in around 15 minutes, so something unusual is happening.

If there are any errors in the preboot console, enable verbose debug and send the logfile to support@net-runna.com.

Hi Martin,

Thanks for the quick response.
There are errors in the degub console so I'm just deployingthe image with verbose debug enabled. The deployment process fails to complete so at what point do I give up and sen you the logs, when I see teh errors in the console? Where will I find the logfile?

Thanks
Andrew

Andrew,

You will find the client's log-file in "X:\Program Files\Netrunna\Enterprise\REMBO\logs\<mac address>.log" on the Boot Server, and please can you also send a net-runna Support pack for the same machine. Simply right-click it in the Management Console and select "Information/Create Support Pack".

You may also wish to have a read of *** How to Help Us to Help You *** for other things to check.

Andrew,

The log-file contains the message "Error : Error verifing cache partition!" which suggests that the cache has become corrupted.

This can be a soft or hard corruption.

To clear a soft corruption, login to the preboot menu on the client, then select "General Tools" followed by "Disk Tools" then click on "Clean Cache Partition". After the cache has been cleared, reboot via the Rembo "start" menu on the bottom left and re-try the deployment.

A hard corruption basically means a faulty disk and parts of the cache cannot be written. You will need to replace the disk to fix the problem.

Andrew,

That's great news!

3.9.0.42 is the latest version (apart from a few one-off patches for individual customers), but we will be launching a new version (Service Pack) very soon along with some other interesting announcements. You should hear more in the next few weeks.

Cheers,

Martin
